New Hotel on the Way – The D

The D Hotel VegasThe nice thing about this one is that it’ll have a little class, a little glamour, but not the big price tag of some higher-end hotels. Looks like this will be an option for those of us that want a mid-level Vegas experience:

The D Hotel, formerly Fitzgeralds, will open in Fall 2012. The name itself is a bet on a downtown resurgence (this is what the D stands for). This is one of the few openings in the downtown area in a long time, but efforts are being made to renovate the area and bring life back to a once-thriving section of Las Vegas. Learn more on the downtown revival here.

The $20 Trick – Does it Work?

Vegas $20 trickFor those of you that haven’t heard of this, it works sometimes, and it doesn’t sometimes. Here’s Vegas on a Budget’s recommendation of what to do, followed by a disclaimer of sorts:

Walk in to the check-in desk of your hotel room, and if you have previously booked a standard room, this works even better. When you get to the front of the line, pull out your credit card, driver’s license, and a $20 bill. Set the $20 bill in the middle of the two cards and politely ask, “Are there any complimentary upgrades available?” The desk clerk may just offer a free upgrade! If it doesn’t work, no sweat, at least you tried. In most cases, the clerk will return your money; be prepared if they don’t. They have the ability to upgrade rooms at their discretion, so this is perfectly legal. We have heard of some places have tried to ban this, but hotels don’t give an official answer on it. Give it a shot!

If you’re the type that doesn’t do “tricks” like these, simply speaking with the hotel clerk about what you intend to do is also an acceptable practice. Chances are the room you’d have been upgraded to would sit empty anyway.

Don’t forget about version 1.1 of the Vegas iPhone App, which includes all the latest restaurants, shows, nightclubs, and more. At just $1.99, it will save you on 411 calls and pay for itself in a matter of minutes from its first use. Don’t forget to head to Vegas Hipster, find us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter!

Cheap Hotels in Vegas

Vegas PalazzoOne of the most important things most people look at when planning a Vegas getaway is hotel rates, and we’re here to help with that process.  Have a look at our list and then click below to be taken straight to the site for your hotel of choice:

We’ve got you covered at The Rio for as low as $49 per night. You can go even better with the famous seafood buffet there and be full and save money. The seafood is to die for. Check out our list on Where to Eat in Vegas for more great buffet options.

New York New York has rates from $55 per night. The rooms are average in size and the sports book is small, but you’ll get your money’s worth if you plan on not being in your room much. It is Vegas, after all!

The Luxor has their lowest Vegas hotel rates at $50 a night. A cool Egyptian theme makes this place a lot of fun to stay, and the price doesn’t hurt, either. Carrot Top and Criss Angel are a couple of attractions hosted here as well.

The Excalibur’s best rate guarantee will do just fine for $33 a night. A nice buffet here, and this is one of the cheapest hotels we could find. You would expect a dip in quality, but this is simply not true. We enjoy the Excalibur for what it is–a great cheaper option.

We can also help you find your hotel of choice with our new Vegas iPhone App, complete with contact information. We have hotel information and price ratings for each venue. Have a look around, and be sure to check out Vegas Hipster, find us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter!
